Broadway Physical Therapy is pleased to be able to offer telehealth evaluation and treatment as an alternative or a complement to our other high-quality patient care offerings. Telehealth allows our therapists to provide a “virtual visit” to patients through the use of telecommunication devices (computers, tablets, or smartphones). You can expect the same individualized attention you get in our clinic. During the visit, your therapist will ask about your symptoms, your concerns, and your goals for treatment. They will watch you move and perform exercises or functional tasks in the comfort of your home. After assessment, they will provide recommended modifications to your exercises or your movement patterns to help you meet your goals. We are finding this option to be a safe, effective, and convenient way of initiating or continuing treatment for many of our patients. |
Telehealth FAQ:
What if I’m not sure I am a good candidate for telehealth?
Please contact the clinic via phone or email and a physical therapist can discuss your condition and whether it is appropriate for a virtual visit. If you elect to begin telehealth treatment, you can always decide to change to a traditional in-clinic treatment plan. Your therapist will also continue to assess if telehealth is an effective healthcare delivery option for your condition.
Who pays for telehealth treatment?
In light of the recent Covid-19 pandemic, Medicare and most major insurers are covering telehealth treatment at this time. Our front office staff can confirm your telehealth benefits and estimate your patient responsibility for costs.
What are the risks and benefits of telehealth treatment?
From a remote location your physical therapist is unable to assess vitals, perform manual testing or treatment, provide assistance for walking or transfers, or rapidly respond to an emergency situation. For patients who require hands on treatment or assistance with movement, telehealth may not be an effective treatment option. The benefits of telehealth are reduced infection risk, convenience, and the ability to be assessed in your home environment. Exercises can be adapted for your specific home set up.
What technology do I need for a telehealth visit?
You will need a smartphone, computer, or tablet capable of receiving and transmitting audio and visual information. You will need internet speeds capable of receiving and transmitting video without lag. It is helpful to have a setup that allows you to adjust your device’s camera so we can see your movement in different places and from different angles.
Can I schedule a telehealth appointment on vacation?
Due to licensure restrictions at this time, you must be in the state of Oregon at the time of your appointment. If you are in Oregon but away from your usual home address please let your therapist know so we have your location in case of an emergency.
